Research
Early Research Findings
Preliminary research analysis of youth participating in Prodigy- Girls began Prodigy more depressed than boys and had a larger reduction in depression after Prodigy
- There was a significant decrease in anger, depression/anxiety, and somatic problems for both boys and girls
- Youth who had strong problem-solving skills had less depression
- There was a 70% increase in art skills
New Research Findings
Research and evaluation of the Prodigy program is ongoing by the University of South Florida School of Social Work. Data collected from participating youth and parents consistently reveal significant positive finding s as noted below.
- There was a significant reduction in anxiety, withdrawn behavior, aggressive behavior, social problems, thought problems, and attention problems in the youth participants after completing the Prodigy program.
- Parents reported a significant reduction in their child's rule-breaking, aggression, and attention problems after completing Prodigy.
- Prodigy participants significantly improved their ability to control their behavior after completing the program.
- Youth who use less drugs and alcohol have a stronger belief in their ability to succeed in school, while those who have trouble controlling their thinking/thoughts and engage in more rule breaking have less belief in their ability to succeed in school.
-
Since the Prodigy program reduces problems linked with poor academic outcome, it can be said that the Prodigy program can assist youth in their belief in their academic ability.
